The Legends Junior Tour, explained
Texas's statewide tour for elite juniors — what it is, who can play, and how to get into the field.
What it is
Founded in 2005, the Legends Junior Tour (LJT) is run by the Texas Golf Association and hosts some of the state's biggest junior events, including the Byron Nelson Junior Championship, Texas Cup Invitational, Jackie Burke Cup and Texas State Junior Championship. Many events award AJGA Performance Stars — a path into AJGA tournaments.
It is part of the Texas Junior Golf Alliance with the Northern Texas PGA, Southern Texas PGA and Houston Golf Association. Those groups run local events that act as a stepping stone to Legends statewide events.
Who can play
- Ages 12–19, until Sept. 1 of the season right after high school graduation.
- A current membership with the Northern Texas PGA or Southern Texas PGA junior tour is required. An NTPGA membership (ages 12–18) includes Legends membership; the 2026 NTPGA fee is $95.
- Players agree to the LJT Code of Conduct and dress code at every event, practice rounds included.
How fields are filled
- Open events: Priority Entry System — players meeting set criteria get in first, then everyone else in sign-up order.
- Majors & Invitationals: exemption-based entry.
- First come, first served: Alamo Shootout, Texas Junior Amateur Qualifying and Byron Nelson Junior Championship Qualifying.
Example: the 2026 Spring Preview at Rayburn Resort was 36 holes, an 84-player field, a $300 entry fee, with Boys, Boys 14 & Under and Girls divisions. Fees and fields vary by event — always check the event page.
