How to Build a College Golf Outreach Email This Week
September 16, 2026

A practical guide for Texas junior golfers to structure recruiting emails, present verified tournament data, and publish an upcoming fall schedule to college coaches.
College golf recruiting moves quickly during the fall semester. College coaches are managing their current rosters, running practice schedules, and traveling to collegiate tournaments. They do not have time to read long personal narratives, unverified claims, or open-ended questions.
If you want a coach to track your progress, your outreach must be concise, structured, and easy to verify. Here is how to build and send an effective recruiting email this week.
Structure the Subject Line for Instant Clarity
Coaches scan hundreds of emails a week. An uninformative subject line like "Recruiting Profile" or "Golfer Looking for Opportunities" gets skipped. Format your subject line so the coach knows exactly who you are, when you graduate, and where you play.
Use this formula:
- Grad Year - Full Name - City, TX - Differential or Key Ranking
- Example: 2027 - Alex Miller - Dallas, TX - +1.4 Scoring Differential
This format allows coaches to immediately filter your message into their recruit database based on their recruiting cycle.
The Three Essential Components of the Body
Keep the body of your email under 150 words. Divide it into three clean sections:
1. The Introduction and Academic Baseline
State your name, high school, graduation year, GPA, and test scores (if completed). College coaches must confirm you can be admitted to the university and clear NCAA eligibility requirements before they spend recruiting resources on you.
2. Verified Performance Metrics
Provide factual numbers only. Avoid subjective statements such as "I am a hard worker" or "I hit the ball long." Instead, list:
- Junior Golf Scoreboard (JGS) ranking or national ranking profile link
- Tournament scoring average over your last 10 competitive rounds
- Unrestricted link to an unedited swing video (3-4 swings: down the line and face-on with an iron and a driver)
3. Your Confirmed Fall Tournament Schedule
Coaches need to know where you will be competing so they can plan their recruiting calendar or track live scoring on tournament portals. List the tournament name, date, host course, and city.
Fall Tournaments to Add to Your Schedule
If you are finalizing your schedule for September and October, ensure your tournament entries are confirmed before publishing them to coaches. Several key Texas fall events have approaching entry deadlines:
- NTPGA Jr Tour - West Series (Riverside Golf Course, Fort Worth) — Starts Sept. 26. Entries close Sept. 23. Entry fee: $35-$95.
- TJGT Fall Series - DFW (Tenison Park Highlands, Dallas) — Starts Oct. 3. Entries close Sept. 28. Entry fee: $189-$209.
- LJT Fall Classic - Austin area (TBC, Austin) — Starts Oct. 10. Entries close Oct. 5. Entry fee set on entry page.
- NTPGA Tournament Series - Fall Championship (Texas Rangers Golf Club, Arlington) — Starts Oct. 17. Entries close Oct. 12. Entry fee: $150-$300.
- TJGT Fall Series - Austin (Grey Rock Golf Club, Austin) — Starts Oct. 24. Entries close Oct. 19. Entry fee: $189-$209.
- HJGT Texas Fall Open (TBC, Houston) — Starts Oct. 31. Entries close Oct. 26. Entry fee: $200-$350.
Select 3 to 5 multi-day, nationally ranked tournaments that fit your competitive level and geographical target, confirm your registrations, and list them chronologically in your email.
Best Practices for Sending and Follow-Up
- Send individually: Never bulk-email multiple coaches on the same thread. Address the head coach and assistant coach by their correct last names.
- Keep links accessible: Ensure your swing video link is set to "Anyone with the link can view" and does not require a password.
- Update after milestones: Do not email after every single round. Send updates after completing a 36-hole or 54-hole event, or at the conclusion of your fall competitive season with your updated scoring average and spring schedule.
Your Action Step This Week
Draft a clean, 100-to-150-word email template containing your academic information, verified ranking links, swing video URL, and confirmed fall tournament dates. Identify five college programs that match your current scoring profile and send your introductory email to the head coach and assistant coach before Friday.
Track your own numbers
Log every round hole by hole, import verified tour scores automatically, and send coaches a stat page that stays current.
